MATH DUEL
Your information

Privacy Policy

How Math Duel collects, uses, stores and shares information when you create an account or play.

Last updated: 17 October 2026

1. Who operates Math Duel?

Math Duel is operated by Math Duel (the “operator”). For privacy requests, including access or deletion of your data, contact ottobartlettdavis1@gmail.com. The operator is responsible for the personal information handled by the game.

2. Information we collect

  • Account details: email address, display name, account ID and account creation date. If you register with a password, we store a salted password hash, not the original password.
  • Google sign-in: if chosen, we receive a verified email address, display name and Google account identifier. We do not request access to your Google Drive, emails or contacts.
  • Game information: ELO ratings, duel results, room identifiers and maths answers, together with AI marking feedback. During a session, some game data is held in server memory.
  • Session and technical data: an authentication cookie and short-lived Google sign-in state cookie. The hosting service may process IP addresses, connection details and server request logs to deliver and protect the site.

A room opponent can see your chosen display name, your ELO and your score. They are not given your written answer or private feedback through the game interface.

3. Why we use this information

We use this information to create accounts, authenticate players, keep ELO progress, run duels and solo practice, generate questions, evaluate submitted work, provide private answer logs and protect the service against abuse. Our relevant legal grounds, where applicable, include providing the service you requested, legitimate interests in security and reliability, and compliance with legal obligations.

4. AI processing and service providers

Math Duel sends question-generation instructions, problem context, submitted maths answers and relevant marking notes to the OpenAI API so that it can generate questions and assess answers. Please avoid including sensitive personal information in answers. We do not intentionally include your email address in these marking prompts.

Google handles the sign-in step if you choose Google login. Render hosts the website and its server-side data. The game's mathematical rendering resources are loaded from a jsDelivr CDN, which can receive normal browser request information. These providers may process data under their own terms and privacy notices, including in countries outside the UK.

5. Cookies

Math Duel uses an essential math_duel_session cookie for sign-in, lasting up to 30 days unless it is cleared or you log out. During Google login, a short-lived math_duel_oauth_state cookie helps protect the authentication flow (up to 10 minutes). These cookies are used for sign-in, not advertising. The current application does not deliberately set tracking or advertising cookies.

6. Retention and security

Account and ELO records are stored in a server-side SQLite database. Answer logs may be stored as text files on the server and made accessible through a private download link. Math Duel does not currently have a fixed automatic deletion period for accounts or answer logs; please contact the operator to request removal. Session tokens expire after 30 days, though related database entries may not be deleted immediately.

We use salted password hashes and HTTP-only authentication cookies, but no online service can guarantee complete security. Storage persistence depends on the hosting configuration: server redeploys may erase data if persistent storage has not been configured.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to access, correct, object to some processing, or request deletion of personal data. Send a request to ottobartlettdavis1@gmail.com. There is currently no self-service account deletion button; requests require operator action. If you are in the UK, you can also raise concerns with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

8. Changes

This policy may be updated when Math Duel's features or data practices change. The date at the top of this page indicates the current version. Material changes should be communicated to users where appropriate.
